Jamie Kirby (trumpet) is a native of Spartanburg. He is a graduate of
Spartanburg High School, the University of South Carolina, and Winthrop
University.
Jamie was the 2003 winner of the Phi Beta Mu Outstanding Bandsman award in
the South Carolina All-State Band. In 2007, he received his Bachelor’s
degree in Music Education from the University of South Carolina. During his
time as an undergraduate, Jamie performed in many ensembles. This included
the Symphonic Band, Symphony Orchestra, and the Mighty Sound of the
Southeast where he was featured as a soloist. He recently received his
Master’s degree in Music Education from Winthrop University. At Winthrop,
Jamie performed in the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, and Trumpet Choir. He
has studied the trumpet privately with Tim Bivins, Keith Amstutz, and Mark
Dulin.
Jamie is certified to teach instrumental music education and is currently
working as a substitute teacher in Spartanburg School District 6. He is an
alum of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity and is a member of
the South Carolina Music Educator’s Association. Jamie is the son of
Marshall Kirby; the tuba player of the Sparkle City Brass.
